16th Annual Southeast Chapter

of the American Bamboo Society at

Savannah Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens  

 February 18,  2006

Adam Turtle with Dr. Steve Garton, new Director of the Gardens.

When the meeting began, Adam Turtle of Our Bamboo Nursery
 introduced Dr. Steve Garton as the new director of the Coastal Gardens.

Dr. Garton discussed the history and the future of the bamboo.
The bamboo has been established for 89 years in the Gardens.
Over 30 people attended the meeting.

Our president, Robby Russell, leads the members on a tour
of the bamboo.

So many of the groves of bamboo are not identified because
of various reasons. The morning was spent with everyone
helping to identify some of the groves. Mike hotchkiss of

The chapter had an auction and the proceeds went to the
Richard Waldron Memorial Fund. Steve and Adam are
standing in from of some of the plants that were sold.

Mary Ann Silverman of Mid Atlantic Bamboo is keeping
track of all the plants for auction.

Adam Turtle presented an interesting talk and slide show on 'Earth Healing With Bamboo'.
